Medieval Christians often used bloodstone to carve scenes of the crucifixion and martyrs, leading it to also be dubbed martyr's stone. The legend of the origin of bloodstone says that it was first formed when some drops of Christ's blood fell and stained some jasper at the foot of the cross. A beautiful example of carved bloodstone with the seal of the German Emperor Rudolf II can be seen at the Louvre museum in Paris.

A copper pendant was found in what is now northern Iraq that dates to 8700 BC. The colony of polyps functions essentially as a single organism by sharing nutrients via a well developed gastrovascular network, and the polyps are clones, each having the same genetic structure. Each polyp generation grows on the skeletal remains of previous generations, forming a structure that has a shape characteristic of the species, but subject to environmental influences.

Its dark crystals with red internal reflections are in the isometric system, appearing as cubic, octahedral, or dodecahedral forms, or in combinations, with a deep red color. In spite of its nice color it is rarely used for jewelry because of its low hardness of 3.5 -4

Cuprite has been a major ore of copper and is still mined in many places around the world. Of all the copper ores except for native copper, cuprite gives the greatest yield of copper per molecule since there is only one oxygen atom to every two copper atoms. As a mineral specimen, cuprite shows fine examples of well-developed cubic crystal forms. Cuprite's dark crystals show internal reflections of the true deep red inside the almost black crystal. Other varieties, such as chalcotrichite, show tufts of needle-like crystals that have a beautiful red color and a special sparkle that make them popular display cabinet specimens.

Mystically it is used to recall and examine past life experiences. It has been historically said to help heal one's relationship with their father. Traditional folklore and crystal healing lore purport that cuprite is helpful for healing problems with the thymus, heart, blood metabolism (especially imbalances), muscle tissue, skeletal system, oxygenation of the blood, stamina, kidneys, menstrual cramps, certigo, water retention, vitamin absorption, addictions and alcoholism.

Dioptase is a rare mineral found mostly in desert regions were it forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of copper sulfide mineral deposits. However, the process of its formation is not simple, the oxidation of copper sulfides should be insufficient to crystallize dioptase as silica is normally minutely soluble in water except at highly alkaline pH. The oxidation of sulfides will generate highly acidic fluids rich in sulfuric acid that should suppress silica solubility. However, in dry climates and with enough time, especially in areas of a mineral deposit where acids are buffered by carbonate, minute quantities of silica may react with dissolved copper forming dioptase and chrysocolla.

The lack of a blue garnet was remedied in 1998 following the discovery of color-change blue to red/pink material in Bekily, Madagascar, These stones are very rare. Color-change garnets are by far the rarest garnets except uvarovite, which does not come in cuttable sizes. In daylight, their color can be shades of green, beige, brown, gray and rarely blue, to a reddish or purplish/pink color in incandescent light. By composition, these garnets are a mix of spessartine and pyrope, as are Malaya garnets.

The color change of these new garnets is often more intense and more dramatic than the color change of top quality Alexandrite which is frequently disappointing, but still sells for many thousands of dollars (US) per carat. It is classed with the mysterious group of glassy objects called tektites, and it is believed to have fallen from the sky only once, about 14.8 million years ago. Turquoise
Go to fullsize imageTurquoise (or turquois) is opaque, blue-to-green hydrated copper aluminium phosphate mineral according to the chemical formula CuAl6(PO4)4(OH)8ܫH2O. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been enjoyed as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. In recent times turquoise—like most other opaque gems—has had its popularity undermined by the introduction of treatments, imitations, and synthetics onto the market, some difficult to detect even by experts.

The word turquoise is very old and likely is derived from the French pierre turquoise, meaning Turkish stone. This is thought to have arisen from a misconception: turquoise does not occur in Turkey but was traded there, and the gem became associated with the country in the West.
Turquoise is a copper aluminum phosphate mineral with a hardness of 5 to 6. Its name means 'Turkish stone', because early trade routes brought it to Europe via Turkey. It has been used in amulets & jewelry in Europe/Asia for thousands of years & is important in Native American jewelry.

Mystic Lore: Intuitive sources say Turquoise is a stone of wholeness, promoting the sense of unity of the self and oneness with all that surrounds us. It is said to make one feel at home in both the physical and spiritual worlds.

Turquoise is one of the oldest known gem materials. The Egyptians were mining turquoise in 3,200 BC in the Sinai. The blue of turquoise was thought to have powerful metaphysical properties by many ancient cultures.  In ancient Mexico, turquoise was reserved for the gods, it would not be worn by mere mortals.  Turquoise is sacred to both Native American and oriental traditions. It is associated with the sky, and bringing sky energy to earth. It can help promote honest and clear communication from the heart.

A stone very close to the basics of the earth; imparts wisdom, serenity, honesty and friendship.

 Zeolites
Zeolites (Greek, zein,"to boil"lithos,"a stone") are minerals that have a porous structure. The term was originally coined in the 18th century by a Swedish mineralogist named Axel Fredrick Cronstedt who observed, upon rapidly heating a natural mineral, that the stones began to dance about as the water evaporated. Using the Greek words which mean "stone that boils," he called this material zeolite.

Zeolites are a family of minerals and related minerals, including apophyllite, chabazite, stilbite, heulandite, goosecreekite, laumonite, natrolite and others. Technically, zeolites are framework silicates with exchangeable cations and some of the minerals considered zeolites metaphysically do not strictly fit the technical criteria, but are like "cousins" with some metaphysical properties that are the same. In particular, zeolites are said to be extraordinarily helpful for absorbing and removing toxins, whether it be in the environment or in a person.

In a person, this metaphysical aspect would make zeolites excellent healing stones, and they are often used in conjunction with Reiki. Zeolites are also said to be useful for agriculture or gardening, especially when they are buried in the field or garden. Zeolites are said to remove negative energy and bring in happiness where the negative energy was. Mystical healing lore says that zeolites are helpful for goiter, addictions, detoxification, and bloating. Each individual type of zeolite also has its own unique metaphysical properties.
